its again another hell week for us. chionging out the structures one by one, seeing nuanting pulling her hair everytime a new structure for handed over to intricacies.

if without rag laz year, i would not have love my uni life as much as now...

overstatement? maybe. but the raggers' bond is definitely true.

the times when we "marche" together, knowing the seniors, other raggers from other ogs, both presenters and the "floaters" (a term coined by me for the float-builders).
the times where 24 proved that the circle of trust has both its occasions of being trustworthy and partially permeable.
the times where "xi niu nai" and "chinaman" got us complaints from the seniors.
the times when the presenters has bruises all over from the practices.
the times when floaters seeing their artpieces forming one by one.
the times when we cheer so hard at padang, laughing out loudly with your neighbour you got acquianted with minutes ago, hugging tightly and sobbing emotionally when we won the chancellor's shield.
the time when everyone did the cheer fight together to commemorate the victory
the times when in any occasions (Oweek, Dnd, Jam N Hop) the same bunch of ppl will always congregate today and give the ragger cheer.
the times when all rag ended, and you see a fellow ragger during lecture or in canteen, it still feels lyk the frenship stays foreva.

non-raggers say rag is sai kang. its all about paper cutting, marche-ing, building structures and got injuries all over.
A total waste of time.

I say rag is a bond. its all about carrying on the tradition, passing this wonderful history down, cracking our brains and brawns together to make it happen.
A memory of a lifetime.

biz ragger, aka bRagger, no matter where we work, will always identify ourselves as one big family.

Nobody enjoys rag as much as the freshies do. Carefree days, having fun with your peers, late night lame games, showers at SRC, digging out secrets, gossiping, cutting paper, mache-ing, structure-building, dance practices are stuffs that created lasting memories for me back in those days.

This year, it is our turn as seniors to guide our freshies and let them enjoy the process as much as we did last year. It is not an easy task to ensure that the fresh blood gets inspired so that they can carry on the legacy year after year. However, Rag Comms for the the past few decades had never failed to accomplish this task.

While others are still busy with other camps such as sports camp and cac camp, RAGDEZVOUS (camp) officially started yesterday! Yay! 3 cheers and 3 cheers and 3 cheers for ragdezvous!

yesterday had a great kick start. While some of us make the audi a more comfortable place to stay in, the others practically emptied student lounge and rag store. Tired as we may be, the spirit is up and high and I am so proud I am part of this big rag family!

Today, the guys and girls part ways to finish up different tasks. While the girls went and shop for their intricacies stuffs, we went out to purchase the materials needed for the structures such as the plywood and angle (or is this how they spell it?) bars, and cuz of our gd rag head and treasurer, we managed to get quite sum bit of free stuffs. :)

Because all your FRESHIES will be joining us then.Trust me, seniors and freshies alike, we LOVE human company.

OH WAIT! ohmygosh! let me tell u guys something. two weeks ago, I got my first call from a freshie who wanted to come down to help at rag! *EXCITING* U guys know what's even better? Ms Union Camp, Ms Photogenic, Ms Antique Car..... Hmmmmm...... She runs like a Evo though, zipping her way from her home near West Coast to Far East Shopping Centre. And one more interesting fact about her - she is the first woman I heard complaining about her biceps!

She has a Pooh Bear that is larger than her. Her bed at KR is so packed with plushies that you'll wonder how she has got enough space to sleep at night. The pint-sized xiao xiao is so angsty nowadays that you better leave her alone watching TV.

Deputy Head of Prejudging - Pius
This fashion advisor from Massimo Dutti will kill you if you say he looks like a model from New Urban Male. Truth is, he does look like one. When you walk behind him these days, you always find him locking hands with his cheerleader. When Nuans can't stand the lovey dovey sight, she'll always make fun of the couple.

Deputy Head of Welfare - Amelia
She got famous last sem along the corridor of Bizad Club - mugging, doing projects, chit-chatting and selling Captain Kim snacks all at the same time! And she even found time to do Stardust and iBiza. Oh wells, typical RJcian.....

Deputy Head of Intricacies - Mel
Flower girl who pulled us through the V-day. She's really very talented at the artsy fartsy intricate stuff that you'll be amazed how she can turn simple random materials into nice gifts. Don't doze off during her FNA presentation though, she'll haunt you!

Yikes she'll never walk alone! This hardcore Liverpool fan fumes whenever the Red Devils puts one over the Reds. Jokes aside, if you need tips on how to get As without going for lectures, look no further! Hope that she'll continue fuming next season though :P

The owner of the Chevvy Transformer drives like an F1 driver. Don't hitch a ride from him if you have a faint heart. He'll be the one rewarding all the raggers for their hard work. And he's also the Vice Head for Flag too!

THIS is our Rag & Flag Head 2008. His name is Dexter Ho. (:

Even tho' he looks like a tall, mighty dinosaur who could gobble u up, and even tho' he chomp chomp chomps on tons of mumm mumm, oh belive me, dexter is a gentle giant (: AND a real smarty pants, who stays calm and collected even in the face of cockroaches. WELL, actually, the enthusiasm, overzealousness and of course, BLAZING PASSION that he possesses for RAG is what actually helped pull us all into this big committee.

Head of Structure - Eugene
Bulging biceps and well-defined abs, this cool naval diver makes funny faces that made all gals in BizAd swoon. Angle bars and square brackets will soon be his forte. Complicated guy....

Head of side props - Alan
Child of God, faithful boyfriend and an academic expert. Watches bleach & one piece like there's no tomorrow. Given his knowlege in general biology, he has all the insightful knowledge that few possesses with regards to human anatomy.

Treasurer - Ticky(secret character)
Smart alec straight 'A's commando with a passion for Man Utd. It's easy to locate him in BizAd - just look for a crowd of girls and he'll most likely be at the centre of attraction.

Head of Publicity - Jonathan Teo
Always sporting the coolest hairstyle, the Elvis incarnation is another naval diver. Dun ever challenge him to a dare though, you'll never match up to his courage. If you disagree, try shaving your head first.

It took so much persuasion, encouragement and assurance for me to finally assemble this wonderful group of people. I mean, this bunch is so unique that you'll bite your own head off if you miss hanging out with them come end June. That's why they're so hard to get!

Deputy Rag Head - Karmen aka xoxoThe queen of kaypohs. I seriously suspect that she's real gossip girl. Ultimate mama who'll scream at you if you do not clear your food after eating them in the clubroom. One more reason to join rag - she might make some potato salad. Though she claims it's easy but it's so nice that you'll want your future wife to learn it next time. Too bad though - she's taken!

Chief Designer 1 - Sihui
Legend has it that her artpieces are still being displayed in SAJC even after she graduated. Once she whip out her pencils or crayon, you'll feel that gawd! if only I'm as talented.... Oh well, nothing's fair in this world.

Chief Designer 2 - sidewalk(secret character)
The ultimate nerd gal (the day before exam only) that loves number crunching modules. Back from the land of the rising sun, she aims to reach the epitome of kawaii-ness. Dun offend her though, harry and lucy will kill u!

Head of Intricacies - Nuan Ting
Somebody who will make sure work gets done Someone who kicks your butt and sayang you afterwards. Someone to go to when you wanna get all the first hand info. Someone to enjoy teh ping with (but must see timing)! What more can you expect from the intricacy head?

Humans are by far, the most complex creatures we know. We could be anti-social at times and yet, there's a yearning to be with people,to have friends. AND I guess, this is what every incoming freshie would feel. We're thrown out of our comfort zones of homely JCs, groups of friends who don't follow on to where we enter and we realise we're moving into an exciting, yet uncertain phase of our lives- social lives.

I signed on for FOC, but couldn't attend it. AND hearing how fantastic and fun it was, I reeeaally regretted not going. BUT, my ogls were very warm and welcoming, constantly inviting me to their OG outings (my OG is, by the way, SHOGUN:)) and OG members were superbly enthusiastic and constantly flooding my email inboxes about outings and, RAG.

Prof Quek had already mentioned RAG in one of his numerous and yet very personal emails to us freshies. It's a tradition every faculty has. This float construction, this dance presentation that every faculty puts up on Rag Day. It was definitely a strange concept to me initially. AND very apprehensive on joining voluntarily. Afterall, I didn't attend FOC and didn't have a huge group of friends to come down to Rag with.

What changed? Well, my overzealous OG mates FLOODED the SHOGUN yahoogroups mailboxes with TONS of mail on how we should come down to Rag Camp and help out. (: haha they mentioned the stayovers, the great fun they had etc etc. SO, after my part-time job of teaching JC students ended. I decided to go down to the Rag Site one day to check it out (: (u know,curious and all) Taking the A1 shuttle to Biz School, finding my way to the Rag Site, at the HSS Auditorium area, was uhm interesting.

The Rag Site wasn't bursting with energy per se, loud music played. And seniors looked very very drowsy. SO in my mind I was wondering. uhoh haha. AND the freshies started streaming in later. I met my OG mates who had been FLOODING my email inbox for the very first time. Dexter- a TALL and BIG dinosaur-looking person. and Zhen Jie & Alan- two other persons flooding my emails. Starch and paper were to be our best friends. WELL, the first job we got was to paper machier this HOUSE (:

AND, the seniors recruited us enthu freshies to be presenters. hoho. what's that? DANCERS. oh goodness! I can't dance for nuts but the choreographer was an ex AC girl (: AND she was nice and she helped a lot, so, tadaaa. I stayed on at Rag from then on.

Presenter practices were fun (by fun, it was crazyyy). WE stretched till our ligaments felt like they were tearing (especially for the less flexible like me) and we learnt the dance moves. AND then one day, the biggest shock came. haha we had to do LIFTS! holymoly! Alan. my poor partner had to lift me off the ground. ohboy. In between practices, freshies were called down to continue mache-ing the houses, the structures. Then practices resumed. Some of us stayed over. OOH stayovers were truckloads of fun. What did we do? The details are fuzzy to me, but all I can say is that. Besides the games we played, the stories we shared about each other, the fun trips down to the SRC to bathe whilst sitting at the back of a lorry, the suppers, the friendships forged is something that is truly memorable.

Well. we survived, all the way to the Padang, where we performed. AND where, we won!It was an experience that made me feel proud, that made me feel I was a Bizader.

Rag as a process is somewhat surreal. Words can't describe this. I could go on and on, already as it is, my entry is filled with WORDS. THIS is something, you gotta experience for yourselves; at least once, when you're a freshie.

Today, I'm old. YEAR TWO. AND my friends sitting together -for our FNA lectures, sleeping tog at MNO lectures, laughing at Legal Lectures and tolerating my liking for our cute grandpa OM lecturer- are those, I've befriended at RAG. EVEN joining the Bizad Club as the kaypoh Honorary General Secretary (*long title, but yes, kaypo job I have)was cos' of Rag. The freshies in the Bizad Club are either from FOC,RAG or both.

As I look back on my first year as a freshie, RAG truly was a memorable experience that I'm glad I went for. So much so, I would give up 6 weeks of my hols to be camping over at the HSS audi all over again. SO, enough said. Want friends, fun and to know what Bizad is all about? JOIN RAGDEZVOUS 2008.

RAGGG CAMP! This year, RAGdezvous 2008 is the official name of NUS Business School's RAG and FLAG, an annual freshmen orientation project and event, initiated by NUS.

Freshies are all welcome to join us from 7th July onwards!Anytime, any day, do come down to help out and have truckloads of fun. It's optional to stay over at the HSS auditorium, BUT BUT BUT, we strongly encourage you to do so if possible! ALL you need are your toiletries, sleeping bag, pjs and other stuff that helps u sleep. ACTUALLY, you may not even need to sleep! We'll be having fun the whole night thru doing all sorts of crazy things we have planned out. HEHE.

AND I did realise, we left out the directions on how to get to the RAGdezvous site (: so here's it!

FIRST, get to NUS. You could take an MRT to Buona Vista MRT station, take 96 or 95 to NUS. Alight at the Central Library, take the internal shuttle bus A1 or A2 or B.

Alternatively, take the MRT to Clementi MRT Station, you could take 96, which enters NUS by the second entrance after University Cultural Centre, alight at the bus stop directly outside the School of Design & Environment. Walk up to the School of Arts & Social Sciences, to the bus stop further up, and hop on to internal shuttle A1 or A2 or B.

WELL, whatever the case, once you're on the internal shuttle bus (which have the locations it stops by in the front window), alight at NUS Business School (for Buses A2 and B), as pointed out in the picture above. You'll see the School of Computing, followed by Biz 1. Enter the NUS Biz 1 Building, walk to the right and all the way straight. You'll see many seminar rooms, and followed by flights of stairs. Walk down the stairs till you see the Hon Sui Sen Memorial Library. The RAGdezvous campsite is just at the base of the library!

Should you take bus A1, alight at the stop directly after NUS Business School. You'll pass the construction sites of the Mochtar Riady Building and Alumni House, followed by the Hon Sui Sen Memorial Library.Walk up to the RAG campsite!

You must be wondering what Rag & Flag is about. Sorry to disappoint you guys, but I don't think I can ever describe it in words. What I can tell you is, you gotta come and experience it yourself!

Behind the cheers, the majestic float and the groundbreaking performance, love, friendship and camaraderie are forged. These people, affectionately known as Raggers share such strong bonds that throughout the years of their academic life and after, Rag is one of their most common topic whenever they meet up for gatherings and celebrations. Needless to say, those that are not involved before will wonder why we are such a special bunch of people.

Freshmen, hesitate no more! Begin your BizAd journey in the best way ever! Firstly, sign up for our Freshmen Orientation Camp (FOC) at http://www.retrospectif.com Get to know a bunch of really good mates and come down to join the Rag Camp to get to know them even better.
